All about Type 3+ insurance!
Great value premiums
Covers car body damage
Suitable for cars 7-15 years old
Type 3+, or third class car insurance, covers accidents involving other road vehicles. It's best suited for experienced drivers, who have not made claims for several years, and are looking to reduce the final premiums they pay. As the total sum insured is limited - damages are covered up to THB100,000 only - we recommend Type 3+ for cars that are 7-15 years old.
If you’re an experienced driver, you will likely have a great understanding of your car's limits, and you'll be unlikely to get into self-accidents, i.e., hitting light poles, road curbs etc. Type 3+ excludes the self-accident component of your plan, and this can significantly lower the final premium you pay.
Type 3+ covers accidents involving other road vehicles. This type of policy excludes car theft, flood and self-accident coverages, which helps you get much cheaper premiums that you would with comprehensive policies.
Type 3+ is a policy with a fixed sum insured at THB 100,000. This is great if you want to save costs. By excluding a high sum insured and lots of additional coverages, you can get a cheap premium. This is generally most suitable for cars 7-15 years old. As a car ages, the value of the car is reduced, and therefore, the insurable sum also drops. In this case, particularly for smaller, older cars, we recommend the Type 3+ as the cheapest way to get great coverage.
1. Accident with road vehicle
Type 3+ covers accidents with registered road vehicles for both parties - motorcycles, other cars and trucks, with coverage up to the sum insured. The more limited Type 3 (without the "+") only covers third party vehicles - not your own
2. Accidental death
Type 3+ compensates you, your passengers, or other individuals involved in an accident in the event of death or permanent disability.
3. Accidental Injury
Type 3+ covers medical expenses above CTPL cover, from an accident in the event of injury for you and and your passengers, helping you avoid incurring expensive hospital bills.
4. Bail Bond
In a car accident, if you’re found guilty of breaking the law, you may end up in the court of law and even in jail. The bail bond component of your type 3/3+ policy will cover the cost of bailing you out.
5. Third Party Property Damage
Type 3+ covers damages to people outside your car that were caused by you, including public trees, light poles, buildings and other vehicles too.
6. Third Party Life, Body and Health Damage
Type 3+ policy will also cover life, body and health damages for third parties outside your car, to a level above Compulsory (CTPL) Insurance .
You may have noticed that there are different kinds of third class policies - one without the “+” sign, and one with. Here’s an easy comparison of the differences between the two. The main difference between Type 3 and Type 3+ car insurance is when an Accident with Road Vehicle takes place. In addition to covering the vehicle of third party drivers, Type 3+ will also cover your own vehicle, which Type 3 does not, giving you an important extra level of protection.
| Accident with Road Vehicle | Coverage Cost | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Your vehicle | Third party vehicle | (Range) | |
| Car insurance Type 3 | Not covered | 4,000 - 5,000 THB | |
| Car insurance Type 3+ | 4,000 - 6,000 THB | ||
If you’re a safe driver, you can save on your premium by adding a deductible THB 1,000-2,000. In the event of a claim, you will have to pay on top of your premium.
If you install a dashboard camera in your car, or you show your insurer that you have already installed one, you will be eligible for 5-10% discount on every car insurance type - as per The Office of Insurance Commission.
